FROM INDIA: NOT FOR SALE SPONSORS INNOVATIVE NEW TRAINING PROGRAM FOR SURVIVORS

In Awareness, Forced Labor, Human Trafficking, Sex Trafficking on February 9, 2012 at 9:29 am

Not For Sale is sponsoring an innovative new training program in New Delhi, India, which will fully prepare vulnerable people and survivors of modern-day slavery to work with our local enterprise partner Open Hand.

Not For Sale is working with Open Hand to develop an on-the-job training program in order to provide survivors of exploitation with competitive and dignified employment alternatives.

News that Not For Sale is expanding its scope to help fight modern-day slavery in India coincides with its fifth anniversary this week.

In 2012, Not For Sale seeks to sponsor the training of 100 individuals, 30-40% of who are survivors of exploitation or severely at risk to eventually be employed at Open Hand’s manufacturing unit in New Delhi.

Although the number of women working in India is increasingly rapidly, women in low skilled jobs often continue to face discrimination or abuse. The Not For Sale training program at Open Hand will be supporting and engaging women from local shelters and vocational programs that are ready to return to the workforce following rehabilitation.
