The National Underground Freedom Center, home of the world’s first permanent exhibit on contemporary slavery, will be the epicenter Thursday night of international and local efforts to combat human trafficking.

The U.S. Department of State and Freedom Center will honor eight international Trafficking in Persons Report Heroes, who will be present, as well as three local people who have worked to prevent and alleviate suffering sustained by trafficked persons.

Following a reception for the eight international heroes – who come from nations as diverse as Cameroon and Japan – the Freedom Center will show its 2012 documentary “Journey to Freedom.”
