The investigation revealed that the officials had helped Lissy, who is known as Leena Basheer and Aswathi abroad, in trafficking poor women with the offer of jobs. Lissy had allegedly trafficked about 125 women from Kerala and neighbouring states in this manner.

The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) has also gone into the wealth of the main accused in the case and has recommended a detailed investigation against 19 officials, who included SPs, DySPs and circle inspectors. The VACB has found major irregularities in the financial assets of most of these officials. It found that these officers had made money unaccountable for by investing it in real estate in other people’s names.

The human trafficking incident incident first came to light after Somarajan, Assistant Commandant with the Immigration Wing of Nedumbasserry airport, conducted an inquiry and filed a report against Ajeeb, civil police officer for having links with travel agents.
