Online child trafficking: Newborn sold for Rs 8 lakh on Facebook

Crimes against children in India seem to be only increasing. In a shocking case of child trafficking, a man in Ludhiana reportedly sold his grandchild for Rs 45,000 to a hospital nurse. After changing two hands, the newborn was sold off for Rs 8 lakh through bidding on Facebook.

Police officials told IndiaToday, that the maternal grandfather, Feroze Khan, stole the newborn boy from his daughter while she was asleep. He later told her that her baby was stillborn. He then sold the child to a nurse atSatyam Hospital for Rs 45,000.

The nurse, Sunita, then sold the child to lab assitant Gurpreet Singh, for Rs 3 lakh who then put the infant for sale on Facebook.

Amit Kumar, a businessman from Delhi, then purchased the child for Rs 8 lakh after seeing photographs of the child on the networking site.
