Avoid falling victim to human trafficking in the new year

In Awareness, Human Trafficking on January 3, 2013 at 5:15 pm

The year 2012 has seen its fair share of good presentation of issues on human trafficking. From the allegations of women and girls caught up in sexual exploitation in Malaysia to the case of the Chinese man trafficking young girls in Uganda, to the Emin Baro case of sexual exploitation of young girls, the stories have been wrenching.

However, for many, the issue of human trafficking remains only an illusion, perhaps because it remains out of sight, making its appreciation far reaching. The absence of evidence-based research also presents its own challenges. But the absence or lack of data, should not condone a culture of silence on an issue whose implications are more dangerous than that of the classic slave trade.
