President Barack Obama issued an executive order mandating government contractors put in place a compliance program throughout the supply chain to prevent human trafficking.

The order, which came as part of an effort Obama announced in remarks on Tuesday to the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, bars federal contractors, subcontractors or their employees from engaging in trafficking-related practices such as misleading recruitment, charging recruitment fees or destroying an employee’s identification documents.

It marks the latest move to increase compliance procedures through the corporate supply chain. Just last month, the U.S. required companies to disclose information on the sourcing of conflict minerals. And some in the private sector are also engaging with supply-chain risk.
